Students Can Take A Free Virtual Tour!

As part of our commitment to education and outreach, the West Des Moines Historical Society is offering FREE live virtual tours to Iowa public school through 2021! Students can walk in the footsteps of Underground Railroad history, learn about early Iowa schools, abolitionist John Brown and more, at no charge!

This is also a wonderful opportunity for schools not in Central Iowa to have access to the amazing resources provided by the WDMHS, including a series of 6 short videos focusing on topics of Iowa history:

  • The Underground Railroad in Iowa
  • Iowa Women and the Underground Railroad
  • One Room Schoolhouses
  • Rule Maker vs. Rule Breaker
  • The John Brown Freedom Trail
  • Iowa in Times of War
