History After Hours

The West Des Moines Historical Society Presents History After Hours at the Jordan House Museum

History After Hours combines a 90 minute tour of the Jordan House museum with a themed craft, lecture or treat! All programs are 6pm-7:30pm, and some are limited to adults while others are open to families.

Space to most programs is limited to 15 people, and tickets are $15. They must be purchased in advance by calling 515.225.1286.

History After Hours kicks off Wednesday, February 20 with History in the Dark. Join us for a candlelight tour of the Jordan House, then make your own beeswax candle. (adults only)

March 20: Ladies Night- tour and light appetizers and wine. (adults only)

April 17: White Glove Wednesday. Tour and the chance to don a conservator’s gloves and examine selected items more closely. (adults only)

May 15: Spring Into History. Tour and focus on the tradition of May Baskets, including the chance to make your own! (family friendly)

June 19: History Ala Mode. Tour the Jordan House and gardens where we’ll make ice cream and enjoy on the front porches! (Family friendly)

July 17: Garden Party. Tour the Jordan House and enjoy some classic yard games and tea. (family friendly)

August 21: History and Art. Tour the Jordan House with an emphasis on the original artwork, conservation and hanging works in a historic home. (adults only)

September 18; Toys and History. Geared towards the family, this tour will focus on the toys, games and crafts of the late 19th century. Join us for fun and a snack! (family friendly)

October 16: History on the Hoof. Tour the Jordan House then learn about the wild and domestic animals of early Iowa. We’ll make pinecone birdfeeders to take home. (family friendly)

November 20: History on the Table. After your tour of the Jordan House, learn about typical foods and menus for every day and special occasions. We’ll make our own butter and have some delicious treats! (family friendly)

December 18: History for the Holidays. We’ll tour the Jordan House by candlelight and make Victorian ornaments. (adults only)
