Social Justice Saturday

Social Justice Saturday at the Jordan House Museum (2001 Fuller Road) the 2nd Saturday of June, July and August. From 1-3pm the Jordan House Museum will be open for self-guided tours and representatives from local groups and organizations focusing on social justice in our community will be available to talk about their work.

Saturday, July 8 our partner organization will be Garden Gate Ranch.

WDMHS Receives MidAmerican Energy Foundation Grant

The West Des Moines Historical Society is dedicated to the mission of historic preservation and to educate public about our historic sites in Central Iowa. Thanks to a recent grant of $7,500 from the MidAmerican Energy Foundation, WDMHS will continue to preserve and protect our two landmark properties.

The Jordan House, a stately Victorian home of Italianate Gothic design, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom

prairie-meadows-logoWith the recently received Community Betterment Grant funding, the West Des Moines Historical Society is launching expanded outreach about the Underground Railroad to local schools and community groups that haven’t had the ability to visit the Jordan House.

These critically needed funds will be used for expanded curriculum,

Double Your Donation!

Thanks to the generosity of the City of West Des Moines, the West Des Moines Historical Society has the opportunity to double new donations designated for maintenance and repair of our two landmark properties, the Jordan House and Bennett School.

From now until June 30, 2017, all donations from new donors may be used to obtain matching funds, up to $25,000! Think what we could do with those funds…our wish list includes a new fence around the Jordan House, repairs on Bennett School windows,


Bravo Greater Des Moines Grant Received!

The West Des Moines Historical Society has received a $35,000 grant from Bravo Greater Des Moines to support capital projects which will preserve the historic Jordan House and the amazing history housed in this unique Victorian home.

We thank the staff and board of Bravo for this recognition of the significant cultural impact the West Des Moines Historical Society has on our community.
